The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program adds a new dimension to your course; it signifies that the "Audubon Sanctuary Member" is environmentally conscious. Members of the Audubon Sanctuary have an improved player experience, better marketing value, and an improved financial approach. A major advantage of being an Audubon member is the program provides tools, information and incentives for positive environmental actions. Certification requires only six steps that will include site assessment, wildlife habitat management, water quality, water conservation, chemical use and reduction, as well as outreach and education.
By becoming certified, you will have many costs that are saved due to an increased awareness of environmental actions. Audubon International has many categories in which golf courses have saved money, including but not including, fuel costs, waste management costs, water costs, and many more! As far as course playability goes, there will not be an increased difficulty of the course, but rather it will have an improved image from the general public and our members.
Throughout the process of becoming certified, it is key that the management and members alike stay involved and supportive. Feedback is great and will help our efforts in becoming more environmentally friendly. Two communication methods to keep everyone updated are this website as well as the twitter account that we have created. (Haven't actually created it, but we did on our petroleum audubon blog site) Two specific things that I will ask my members is that they please help the team along with becoming more environmentally friendly (pick up garbage etc), and also that they would cooperate with the staff trying to attain the certification.
An advisory group is a key aspect to becoming certified. An advisory group helps to keep everyone on track and also if any questions are raised, they will be the people whom to contact. Preferred skills of the advisors are as follows:
- Good management skills
- Environmental background
- Previously went through the Audubon Process
- Certified Audubon Professional
- Have a clear understanding of the Audubon Program
Responsibilities of the advisors are as follows:
- To coordinate the crew
- To answer any questions that may arise
- To train the crew how to help become ASCP certified
Advisors will get paid an hourly wage depending on the experience of the individual.
As mentioned earlier, communication will be through this website and also through the twitter account. To train the staff on what is going on, there will be a seminar held by the Superintendent that explains to staff members on what to look for and how to be more environmentally conscious and how to help the process. This website and the twitter account will be passed down to the Superintendent, if there is a time when the current Superintendent leaves.
